UX Designer Resume Examples & Template (2026)

RisenResume · 10 min read · Updated May 2026

A UX designer's resume sits beside the portfolio — and the portfolio is what wins the role. The resume has two jobs: pass the ATS screen and convince the recruiter to click your portfolio link. That means a clean, text-first resume with the portfolio URL impossible to miss, and bullets that describe real product outcomes rather than design process narrative.

What hiring managers actually look for

Portfolio link prominently placed, evidence of end-to-end product work (research → design → ship), product outcomes you contributed to (engagement, conversion, retention), and software fluency (Figma, design systems experience). Recruiters at top tech screen on portfolio plus outcomes; agency recruiters screen on portfolio plus range.

The format that works

One page if under 7 years, two pages senior+. Single column, conservative document — even if you are a visual designer. Put the portfolio URL in the header next to your name. The resume is functional; the portfolio is where your design taste lives.

Common UX designer resume mistakes

  1. Buried portfolio link. It is the most important link on the document — put it in the header.
  2. Over-designed resume document. Keep the resume itself clean and text-first. Let the portfolio do visual work.
  3. Process narrative without outcomes. "Conducted user research and iterated on prototypes" is invisible — pair process with the product outcome.
  4. Listing every Adobe product. Stick to design tools you actively work in.
  5. No partnership context. Recruiters want to know team size, designer/engineer ratio, and the kind of stakeholders you have shipped with.

Generalist vs specialist

UX generalist resumes lean on range — research, IA, interaction, visual design, prototyping. Specialist resumes (Researcher, Content Designer, Design Systems) lean deeper on the discipline. Lead with whichever matches the role.
